Empowering Women in Leadership: A Catalyst for Change

Women leaders share candid conversations on leadership and legacy

I've seen this before - the impact that powerful women can have when they come together to share their stories and experiences. Back in 2017, I attended a similar event, and it was incredible to see the connections that were made and the inspiration that was sparked.

The American Chamber of Commerce in Sri Lanka recently hosted 'Her Story, Her Voice', an event that brought together some of the country's most respected women leaders for candid conversations on leadership, resilience, legacy, and influence. The event was designed for senior corporate executives, entrepreneurs, policymakers, and emerging leaders, and it provided a unique opportunity for attendees to gain insight into the personal journeys of women who have shaped institutions at both corporate and national levels.

The Event

The event featured two discussions, moderated by media consultant and entrepreneur Savithri Rodrigo. The first session, a Fireside Chat titled 'Two Eras, One Vision,' featured Hon. Rosy Senanayake, former Mayor of Colombo and former State Minister, and Hon. Shiranee Tilakawardane, former Chief Justice of Sri Lanka. They reflected on the defining moments of their careers, the challenges they faced as women in leadership, and the convictions that carried them through environments where scrutiny and responsibility were exceptionally high.

Hon. Rosy Senanayake spoke about being defined for much of her public life by her early recognition as a beauty queen, rather than as the institution-builder and policymaker she went on to become. She said she worked to change that perception through the substance of her work, a shift that culminated in her tenure as Mayor of Colombo. Hon. Shiranee Tilakawardane spoke about resilience and the influence women can carry in senior positions such as hers, outlining what she called the '4 Cs' of leadership: Competence, Consistency, Courage, Character.

  • Competence: Having the skills and knowledge to perform a job effectively
  • Consistency: Being reliable and consistent in one's actions and decisions
  • Courage: Having the strength to take risks and make tough decisions
  • Character: Having a strong moral compass and being a role model for others

The Web3 Angle

What many newcomers don't realize is that the principles of leadership and legacy that were discussed at this event are also relevant to the crypto news and web3 news spaces. As we move forward in the blockchain news and finance news landscape, it's essential to consider the role that women will play in shaping the future of cryptocurrency, bitcoin, and ethereum. The event highlighted the importance of crypto hot topics such as diversity, inclusion, and empowerment, and how these topics will impact the future of crypto blogs and cryptocurrency adoption.

The connection between women in leadership and the web3 space may seem tenuous at first, but it's actually quite significant. As we move towards a more decentralized and inclusive financial system, it's essential to have diverse perspectives and experiences at the table. Women like Hon. Rosy Senanayake and Hon. Shiranee Tilakawardane are paving the way for future generations of leaders, and their stories and experiences can serve as a catalyst for change in the web3 space.

Our Take

I've seen this before - the impact that powerful women can have when they come together to share their stories and experiences. As we move forward in the crypto and web3 spaces, it's essential to consider the role that women will play in shaping the future of cryptocurrency. The event highlighted the importance of crypto hot topics such as diversity, inclusion, and empowerment, and how these topics will impact the future of crypto blogs and cryptocurrency adoption.

As I look to the future, I'm filled with hope and curiosity. What if we could create a web3 space that is truly inclusive and empowering for all? What if we could use blockchain and cryptocurrency to create a more equitable and just society? The possibilities are endless, and it's up to us to make it happen.
